The Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha, is one of India’s most spiritually significant festivals. Each year, millions gather to witness the divine procession of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra as they journey from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple. But in 2025, this sacred celebration was overshadowed by a heartbreaking incident that calls for reflection and collective responsibility.
⚠️ Tragedy at Gundicha Temple: A Sobering Reminder
In the early hours of June 29, 2025, between 4:00 and 4:20 AM, a stampede occurred at Saradhabali, just outside the Gundicha Temple. The chaos began when vehicles entered a densely packed area of devotees awaiting darshan.
Eyewitnesses reported a lack of crowd control and emergency response. The Odisha government has since taken administrative action.
🛕 The Spiritual Essence of Rath Yatra
Despite the sorrow, the Rath Yatra remains a powerful symbol of divine grace, unity, and humility. It is the only time of the year when the deities leave their sanctum to bless devotees in the open.
